The United States (US) is now intensifying efforts to ensure that its artificial intelligence (AI) technology and solutions are the top choice in Asia. This strategic move is being taken to compete with aggressively developed Chinese alternative products at much cheaper costs.
Senior APEC and Economic Policy Officer of the US State Department, Casey K. Mace, confirmed the commitment on the sidelines of the APEC trade ministers' meeting in Suzhou. The promotional session comes a week after President Donald Trump led a delegation of leading American technology CEOs on an official visit to China.
As part of its market dominance strategy, US technology companies are scheduled to hold special workshops during APEC's "digital week" in Chengdu next July. The event is an important platform for Washington to forge direct digital cooperation with all 21 APEC member countries.
Despite the ongoing high-end chip competition and technology restrictions between the two superpowers, the tone of the working-level talks in Suzhou was reportedly positive. This conducive atmosphere was driven by the success of the meeting between President Trump and President Xi Jinping in Beijing that paved the way for AI security discussions.
However, market analysts warn that US global computing efforts will face stiff competition from giant corporate firms and China's domestic AI research labs. In addition, aspects of biotechnology monitoring such as DNA synthesis are also in focus to avoid future biosecurity risks.
