Scroll through social media today, and you’ll see a growing divide.
On one side, we’re taught a powerful truth: “Paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers” and that God’s pleasure is tied to our parents’ رضا. These are not just sayings—they are deeply rooted teachings.
But on the other side, a new voice is rising.
Young people are speaking up:
“What if my home doesn’t feel like paradise… but pain?”
And that’s where the conversation gets real.
💔 Not Every Family Story Is Perfect
Let’s be honest—not every parent gets it right.
Some grow up in homes filled with love and sacrifice.
But others? They face neglect, emotional wounds, or even abuse.
This isn’t something we can ignore.
In reality, there are cases—painful ones—where parents fail in their responsibility. Stories that make you ask:
“How could a mother or father do this?”
Yet, it happens.
⚖️ Between Blame and Responsibility
Here’s where many people get stuck.
Some say:
“It’s not my fault. I didn’t choose my parents.”
And while that’s true… your future is still your responsibility.
If anyone had the “perfect excuse” to give up, it would have been Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
- His own father rejected him
- Insulted him
- Even drove him away
But did he give up?
No.
Instead, he showed us grace, strategy, and strength.
He spoke with wisdom, stayed respectful, and when necessary—walked away without hatred.
He didn’t let his past define his future.
🚫 Two Dangerous Extremes
Today, society swings between two extremes:
- Blind denial
“All parents are good. Stop complaining.” - Total rebellion
“If they’re toxic, cut them off completely—no matter what.”
But the truth?
👉 There’s a balance.
Islam teaches us to honor our parents—but not at the cost of our سلامت (well-being) and faith.
🧠 The Hidden Trap: Self-Diagnosis
Here’s something we don’t talk about enough:
It’s easy to label parents as “toxic” or “narcissistic”…
But sometimes, when we reflect deeply—
👉 We realize we might also be part of the problem.
Growth requires honesty.
Because one day, many will become parents themselves…
And suddenly, the same struggles start to make sense.
🌱 Healing Doesn’t Mean Giving Up
Yes—pain from the past can run deep.
Sometimes it takes therapy, time, and real effort to heal.
But one thing you should never do is:
❌ Give up on your life
❌ Stay trapped in a harmful environment
❌ Believe you have no future
Every story of the Prophets teaches us one thing:
👉 You always have a way forward.
🤲 The Path Forward
- Do your best, even when it’s hard
- Set healthy boundaries when needed
- Seek knowledge, healing, and support
- And most importantly—don’t lose نفسك in the process
Because at the end of the day…
👉 The goal isn’t just to survive family life
👉 It’s to build a family that leads you to Jannah
