President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday to begin a critical state visit aimed at stabilizing US-China relations. His arrival was accompanied by top corporate figures such as Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, signaling that the economic and technology agenda is at the heart of discussions with President Xi Jinping.

The two-day summit is expected to focus on sensitive issues including trade tariffs, control of rare earths, and artificial intelligence (AI) competition. In addition, China's involvement in the ongoing Iran conflict and the issue of Taiwan's sovereignty are also expected to be hot topics in the bilateral meeting.

As a symbol of economic cooperation, analysts predict the announcement of large contracts involving the purchase of Boeing aircraft and agricultural commodities such as beef and soybeans. The move is seen as Trump's effort to reduce the trade deficit and strengthen support from the American industrial and agricultural sectors.

Despite geopolitical tensions, Washington has stressed the importance of maintaining stable relations. Senator Steve Daines described the visit as a “de-escalation” rather than a complete economic severance, given the two superpowers’ interdependence in global supply chains.

Trump is scheduled to embark on a packed schedule that includes several state visits and banquets before departing on Friday. The outcome of the meeting will be closely watched by global markets to see whether the “things” Trump promised can ease the uncertainty of the global economy in 2026.
