The Malaysian government has introduced an international passport with a validity period of 10 years through a new fee structure that has been gazetted and will come into effect from 3 June 2026.

Based on the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026, Malaysians aged 18 to 59 years will be charged RM350 for a 10-year passport application.

For senior citizens aged 60 and above, the fee is set at RM175, while registered Disabled Persons (OKU) card holders aged 18 and above are eligible to receive the passport for free.

This move marks a major change to the country's passport system which previously only offered passports with a validity period of five years. However, to date, the Immigration Department has yet to announce the official date for the application or implementation of the 10-year passport to the public.

The amendment also sets a new rate for replacing lost or damaged 10-year passports. For applicants aged 18 to 59, the first replacement charge is RM550, increasing to RM850 for the second time and RM1,350 for the third time and onwards.

At the same time, the five-year passport category is still maintained for children aged 12 and below, students aged 21 and below pursuing degree programmes abroad, hajj pilgrims and disabled individuals aged below 18.

The amendment made under the Fees Act 1951 came into effect on June 3 and is expected to provide more convenience to Malaysians who frequently travel abroad.
