Shocking Pattaya Case: Australian Man Arrested After Thai Teen Found Dead in Suitcase

thecekodok

A disturbing crime in Pattaya, Thailand has shocked the public after a 17-year-old Thai girl was found dead inside a suitcase near a railway track. The case quickly escalated into an international investigation, leading to the arrest of a 45-year-old Australian man at Bangkok Airport—just minutes before he could allegedly flee the country.

🧩 What Happened in Pattaya?

The victim, a teenage girl from Kalasin known by her nickname “Kek,” had only been in Pattaya for about a week visiting friends. She was last seen alive in the early hours of 25 June after meeting the suspect, Simon, near Jomtien Beach.

CCTV footage later showed the pair entering an apartment building together at around 3:30 AM.

Her final message to a friend was simple:

“Don’t worry, I’ve reached the room.”

That was the last confirmed contact anyone had with her.

📹 CCTV Evidence That Changed Everything

Investigators later uncovered critical surveillance footage:

  • The victim and Simon entering the apartment together
  • Simon leaving the apartment around 9:30 PM carrying a large black suitcase
  • He then returning later without the suitcase

Hours later, police discovered a suitcase containing the victim’s body near a railway line.

🚨 Arrest at the Airport

On the same night the body was found, immigration officers intercepted Simon at Bangkok Airport as he attempted to board a flight back to Australia.

He was arrested just minutes before departure.

At first, he claimed the girl had already left the apartment while he was asleep. However, after being informed that her body had been discovered, he later admitted to a confrontation that turned deadly.

🧠 Conflicting Claims and Investigation

Simon told investigators the incident began over a payment dispute of 1,000 baht, claiming he only paid 500 baht. He alleged the victim threatened him with a knife first.

Police, however, dismissed several of his explanations, including claims that his injuries were caused by a “spider bite” or furniture accident—pointing instead to clear signs of struggle and scratches.

A post-mortem report revealed the victim did not suffer blunt force trauma but died from suffocation.

🔍 Wider Investigation Underway

Authorities are now examining whether this case could be linked to other unsolved murders in the same region, where female victims were also found inside suitcases. While no direct connection has been confirmed, the similarities have raised concern.

Simon now faces serious charges including:

  • Murder
  • Concealing a body
  • Abduction of a minor for unlawful purposes

If convicted under Thai law, he could face the death penalty.

🌍 A Case That Shook Thailand

This tragic case has sparked widespread discussion about safety, tourism crime risks, and the importance of rapid police response in international investigations.
