A total of 14,768 workers in Selangor lost their jobs as of July 10 this year, according to data from the Social Security Organization (SOCSO).
Of that number, 4,263 individuals managed to find new jobs through various job matching initiatives and labor market interventions implemented by SOCSO together with related agencies.
The chairman of the Selangor Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee, V. Papparaidu, said the state government was committed to strengthening efforts to assist job seekers who have yet to find a job through strategic collaboration with SOCSO.
He said this when answering a question from Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim (PH-Kota Damansara) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly in Shah Alam on Tuesday.
Among the initiatives implemented were profiling and job matching sessions through the MYFutureJobs portal to identify job opportunities that are suitable for job seekers' qualifications, experience and skills.
The government also offers skills upgrading and retraining programs to increase the marketability of the workforce according to current industry needs.
In addition, the state government organizes the Selangor JobCare Career Carnival and Selangor Mega JobCare as platforms that connect employers with job seekers through open interviews, job matching and career guidance.
For individuals who have lost their jobs, SOCSO also provides various forms of assistance including job search allowance, reduced income allowance, training allowance and training fee financing to those who qualify.
Job seekers can also get training, professional certification, CV review, interview preparation and ongoing job matching services through the MYFutureJobs and JobCare Selangor platforms.
