Samsung Electronics announced that its latest foldable smartphone series has received a very encouraging response when the number of pre-orders increased by 30% compared to last year's model.
The new lineup introduced consists of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8. According to the company, the pre-order performance this time is expected to be the best in the history of the Galaxy Z series.
Among the models that received the most attention are the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung announced that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 alone accounted for almost half of the total pre-orders.
This shows that the new wider and shorter design has succeeded in attracting consumers, even though the phone has not yet been officially sold in the market.
Senior Vice President of Mobile Product Management for Samsung Electronics America, Drew Blackard, said that the early response received has been very encouraging and proves that consumers are increasingly interested in foldable smartphones.
He believes that the design innovations introduced can help further expand the foldable device market in the future.
All new Galaxy Z models will officially go on sale starting August 7. However, Samsung will face stiff competition in the coming weeks as Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone in September.
In addition, Google is also scheduled to introduce the Pixel 11 Pro Fold on August 12, making the competition in the foldable phone segment even more intense.
Despite the increasing competition, Samsung still dominates the foldable phone market in the United States and is ahead of competitors such as Google and Motorola.
Interestingly, Samsung also found that more Galaxy Z Flip owners are choosing to upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Fold 8 Ultra compared to the previous generation.
Although foldable phones still represent a small portion of the overall smartphone market, the entry of more big brands is expected to accelerate the growth of this category in the future.
