Tensions between the United States (US) and China escalated after US President Donald Trump reiterated his stance that China was the cause of the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York yesterday.

He continued to urge China to take responsibility for the spread of the virus.

"We need to punish the country that spread this disease to the whole world, namely China. At the beginning of the virus, China blocked domestic tourism activities but allowed its aircraft to leave China and infect the rest of the world.

"China has condemned my travel restrictions on their country, even when they canceled domestic flights and imposed a curfew at home," Trump said in a speech.

Trump has previously repeatedly accused Beijing of hiding facts related to the virus and Beijing could stop the spread of the epidemic.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that Beijing had no intention of holding a Cold War with any country.

"We will continue to bridge the gap and resolve disputes with the parties involved through dialogue and negotiations. We will not be involved in any dispute, ”he explained.

In addition, Jinping also slammed the US for saying no country has the right to dominate global affairs, control the destiny of others, or take advantage of all development for themselves.

Tensions between the two countries have arisen due to several issues that have arisen including trade, technology, Beijing's treatment of Hong Kong, and ethnic Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province.
