Indonesians are outraged, urging the country's government, Joko Widodo to sack Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto due to his failure to manage the COVID-19 epidemic.
In fact, since March 2020, some Indonesians have expressed their frustration over Terawan's arrogant attitude and rejecting science.
As a result, a coalition between civil society, academics and social organizations has created a petition starting Wednesday last week in the hope that the voice of the people can be collected and heard by the Indonesian government.
In a statement by the coalition, they put their hopes on President Jokowi to drop Terawan as health minister and replace him with a much more qualified individual.
Among the influential individuals who submitted the petition included the National Network of Domestic Workers Advocacy; chairman of the executive board of students of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Sultan Rivandi; chairman of the student body of the University of Indonesia, Manik Marganamahendra; ReportCOVID-19, Irma Hidayana and Supinah as representatives of the working group.
As of yesterday, a total of 5,700 Indonesians have signed the petition.
The petition also revealed the attitude of the minister who acted indifferently in dealing with the pandemic, including failing to protect the ranks of health officials and the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.
