Malaysia's Unemployment Rate Is At 4.7%

 The unemployment rate in Malaysia in August was at 4.7% compared to the previous month, according to a report from the Department of Statistics today.


Head of Statistics Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd. Uzir Mahidin said in his statement today, the number of unemployed in August this year decreased by 0.5% to about 741,600 people compared to last July.


"The workforce last August increased by 15.9 million people following the continuous opening of the economic sector. However, the situation depends on the situation of Covid-19 in this country, "said Mohd. Uzir.


Add Mohd. Uzir, the recruitment rate continued to increase in August, thus showing that many economic activities were resumed starting in July.



He said, among the economic activities carried out include the tourism sector, education and arts, entertainment and recreational activities.


"Most of those who get jobs in the services sector, especially retail and wholesale, transportation, food and beverage as well as information and communication activities.


"Besides, the economic ability to create employment opportunities increased by 0.3% points per month to month to 65.2% compared to 64.9% last July," explained Mohd. Uzir.
