European Union (EU) Brexit negotiating chief Michel Barnier has called for a meeting with fisheries ministers from several coastal states on Friday.
Fisheries are one of the three main issues that have been a barrier for both parties to reach an agreement over the years.
Among the countries likely to attend the meeting are France, Denmark, Spain, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands.
The pound, which initially showed a downtrend on Thursday, regained some momentum following the report by continuing to maintain a consolidation around the price of 1.3350 against the USD in the Asian session today.
This is certainly seen as a good sign by the market as it may mean that the UK has offered something on fisheries issues to reach an agreement.
Any outright rejection of the offer will be known immediately as ministers are expected to provide brief information to the media.
Meanwhile, Michel Barnier is also reported to be flying to London this weekend to resume talks after stopping it following several consulting officials found positive Covid-19.
