Britain still hopes to secure a trade agreement with the European Union after last week's talks showed a good development.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and EU chief executive Ursula Von der Leyen held talks until Sunday to decide on the next step after failing to find a meeting point on the first day of face-to-face talks.

As a result of the meeting, Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman came up with the latest developments that there are still gaps on important issues. Prior to this, the main dispute was still fishing rights in British waters, ensuring fair competition for companies on both sides and how to resolve disputes in the future.

A spokesman for Boris Johnson added that Britain was still hoping for an agreement. As such, Britain will continue to work towards a free trade agreement.

On the other hand, the European Commission also expressed the same determination by saying that they would give their full dedication to the post-Brexit trade agreement before Britain's transition from the Eu Bloc on 31 December.

Britain officially left the EU in January, and is currently in the transition phase. During this period the UK was still under EU trade rules. However, all of that will end on December 31 and if at that time there is no agreement then both parties will have to bear the cost of trade worth $ 1 trillion dollars a year.
