British Prime Minister Boris Johnson came forward to comment on the progress of the Brexit agreement between the European Union (EU) and Britain on Friday. Johnson says negotiations so far "seem difficult" and there are gaps that need to be resolved as soon as possible, however the door to further negotiations remains open.
Johnson says the UK remains interested in reaching an agreement if it still brings benefits to Britain. He stressed that the UK should be given space to manage their own laws as that is the demand of the people. In addition, the UK hopes it can control their own waters and fisheries rights.
No matter what happens, the door to reach an agreement is still open and the UK will continue discussions even though the situation is difficult and the dispute gap still needs to be overcome.
Both sides have only 2 weeks before the UK withdraws from the EU in full. The two sides are trying to reach an agreement on a trade agreement that will regulate trade worth around $ 1 trillion early next year.
Earlier, Johnson through his spokesman appeared to stress that the UK wanted agreement but was not ready to pawn UK independence and sovereignty. Johnson added that if an agreement could not be reached then the UK would make the transition to the principles of trade adopted by Australia and would continue to be committed to negotiating on issues that were at the point of dispute.
