The Trump administration blamed Iran for a rocket attack targeting the US Embassy in Iraq and warned to respond in the event of a further attack.

"Our embassy in Baghdad was attacked by several rockets on Sunday. Three rockets failed to launch. Try to guess where it came from? : IRAN. Now we hear that there is talk of additional attacks on Americans in Iraq, ”Trump wrote in a tweet.

"Some friendly advice for Iran: If an American is killed, I want Iran to be responsible. Think about it. ” he warned.

Earlier today, Politico reported that Washington was considering immediately closing its embassy in Iraq, as well as signaling that the move represented an initial response to Tehran.

On Sunday, more than 20 rockets were launched into the green zone compound in Bahagdad which houses the US Embassy as well as several other official buildings.

However, no injuries or casualties were reported as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed the President's allegations and said Trump deliberately wanted to divert attention from his failure in the US by accusing Iran of attacks on its embassy in Iraq.
