Top Glove Corp Bhd has denied a recent report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) on the welfare of its employees, describing it as misleading and damaging the company's reputation.
The company said the report deliberately disregarded or did not include the latest recovery measures taken by the rubber glove manufacturer.
"We are deeply disappointed that our recovery measures have not been published in a comprehensive and fair manner in the main report video," Top Glove said in a statement today as reported by Bernama.
The statement added that the allegations were raised by the CBC in a post and its report described violations of existing policies and that included Top Glove's commitment to combat forced labor practices and the implementation of sound policies to protect the rights of its employees.
The CBC last Friday posted a video and article detailing what was allegedly a ‘horrible’ work environment at Top Glove factories.
The report used hidden camera footage, reportedly taken using a camera smuggled into the premises with the help of Top Glove employees, which showed the unsafe work environment and the crowded living conditions of its employees.
“Top Glove is committed to ensuring that debt slavery and other related issues that have been misrepresented by the CBC have no place in our business operations. We address this by making the right decisions at all stages of our operations as evaluated by our management and directors.
"As an additional mandatory measure, the company conducts assessments to identify gaps and potential risks in our operations and supply chains, develop mitigation plans and provide remedial measures in areas where our business and operations do not meet our aspirations for the rights of our employees," the statement said. .
Top Glove emphasizes that the health and safety of its employees is a priority for the company. In producing high-quality medical gloves to protect medical practitioners and front-line personnel worldwide, the company is committed to adhering to strict measures to protect all employees and the community.
