A team of international scientists led by the World Health Organization arrived today in the Chinese city of Wuhan to conduct an investigation into the origins of the coronavirus epidemic around the world.
Earlier, the United States, which had claimed that China was hiding something related to the outbreak a year ago, had asked for WHO-led research to be conducted.
Upon completion of the quarantine, the team will spend 2 weeks interviewing the public from research institutes, hospitals and seafood markets in Wuhan where the new pathogen is believed to have emerged.
Meanwhile, China has revealed through the government media that the virus existed abroad before it was discovered in Wuhan, claiming that there was a virus on imported frozen food packages and scientific papers originating in Europe in 2019.
According to WHO's top emergency specialist Mike Ryan, the investigation was conducted to find answers and not to find anyone's fault.
