Technology giant Microsoft Corp. is confident that its Internet search engine product Bing will fill the 'vacancy' that Google may leave in Australia.
Australia had previously introduced legislation urging Google and Facebook Inc to hold talks on the payment of news content by domestic media companies on their platforms.
However, the firms described the law as unreasonable and threatened to withdraw its services from Australia if the rules remained in place.
Among the services include Google search engine which controls 94% of the Internet search market in the country.
According to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, he has discussed with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about the new rules and Microsoftft is ready to expand its influence in Australia.
"I can tell you, Microsoft was so confident when I talked to Nadella.
"We just want the law in the digital world to be in line with what exists in the real world, in the physical world," Morrison told reporters in Canberra.
