US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde have emphasized the need to strengthen transatlantic cooperation in resolving economic and financial problems.

Through a call made on Tuesday, they have discussed policy tools to drive job growth and job creation in America and Europe.

Yellen has also praised President Lagarde for his quick and firm ECB policy response in the face of the coronavirus pandemic crisis.

In addition, he stressed the common priorities of the United States and the European Union (EU), including ending the pandemic crisis, supporting a strong global economic recovery, maintaining financial stability and combating climate change.

Last week, Yellen called on his counterpart and central bank chief from the G7 saying it was time to act bigger now in providing further fiscal support.

President Joe Biden's new administration seeks to rebuild relations with its European allies, after Washington and EU relations had previously been severed by Trump's administration.

EU officials last week welcomed Washington's decision to postpone additional tariffs on EU goods in the long-running dispute over the Boeing issue, saying they were ready to work together to resolve trade disputes.
