Riots In Northern Ireland, UK-EU Trying To Reach Agreement

 The European Union (EU) and the UK are reportedly getting closer to reaching an agreement in addressing the border issue between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.


According to the Financial Times, an EU diplomat said that talks between the two sides had made progress on a technical level, but he also warned that Britain needed to show firm support for the Brexit deal.


The source also added that a meeting between the EU-UK Brexit Commission, Maros Sefcovic and David Frost is likely to take place this week to review the progress made.



Meanwhile, diplomats and other EU officials described the UK’s strong involvement in discussions on the implementation of the Northern Ireland protocol as having raised hopes that an understanding could be reached and ease tensions between the two sides.


The Northern Ireland Protocol, which is part of the Brexit deal, has been a source of contention between the two sides of late, sparking riots in Belfast and several other cities.


According to local media, the riots started due to tensions related to the Northern Ireland protocol from the Brexit agreement between the UK and the EU.
