Consumer information data of leading fast food brands, McDonald’s in South Korea and Taiwan was reportedly leaked.

According to McDonald’s, hackers reportedly accessed a small number of user files.

The leaked data included email, shipping address and phone number but the payment details were not successfully hacked.

A McDonald’s spokesman said the firm would take appropriate steps to inform the authorities as well as the affected customers.

The leak, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, was discovered during an investigation after illegal activity was detected in the company’s network.

Adds McDonald’s, its investment in cybersecurity managed to detect the leak quickly.

"This tool allows us to immediately detect and block illegal activity in our network recently."

"A thorough investigation has been conducted and we are working with an experienced third party to assist with this investigation," McDonald's said.

McDonald’s operations in both countries, however, were not affected by the hacking.

In addition, McDonald’s informed that the employee's personal data was also leaked but the company did not disclose which country was involved.

The cyber attack is the latest against a large firm in recent weeks.

Earlier, hackers stole information about the source code for video games like FIFA 21 from video game manufacturer Electronic Arts (EA).
