Bursa Malaysia opened mixed in today's trading session as the benchmark index declined 0.8% after 10 minutes of trading.
The impact was driven by selling pressure on selected heavyweights, particularly by IHH Healthcare and PPB Group Bhd.
At 9.10am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) declined 1.26 points to 1,526.36 from 1,527.62 at the close on Thursday.
According to a Bernama report, the market index traded 0.59 points higher at 1,528.21.
In the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers by 243 to 184. While 271 counters were unchanged, 1,538 untraded and 31 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 330.53 million units worth RM179.49 million.
Malacca Securities said that the KLCI was expected to build gains in the previous session with the current focus more on economic recovery.
The technology sector is expected to improve following the Nasdaq which continues to perform positively.
The brokerage firm noted that with stronger crude oil prices due to limited supply and increased demand will help boost the energy sector.
Looking at heavyweights, IHH Healthcare declined seven sen to RM5.73 sen, PBB Group plunged 26 sen to RM18.24, MISC Bhd declined six sen to RM6.81, Petronas Dagangan declined 26 sen to RM18.60 and Hong Leong Financial Group fell 22 sen to RM17.62.
Meanwhile, Maybank rose two sen to RM8.06, Public Bank rose one sen to RM4.03, TNB rose three sen to RM9.77 and Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM8.08.
For active stocks, Hwa Tai Industries jumped 13.5 sen to RM1.07, YBS International rose two sen to 53.5 sen, Pasukhas rose half -a -sen to 11 sen, Lambo Group rose six sen to 31 sen, BCM Alliance added 3.5 sen to 13 sen and Kanger International dropped half a cent to seven cents.
On the index board, the FBM Gold Index rose 3.28 points to 11,191.68, the FBMT 100 Index rose 1.69 points to 10,889.45 and the FBM ACE rose 21.64 points to 7,403.80.
The FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 2.68 points to 12,324.67 and the FBM 70 jumped 43.87 points to 14,728.47.
By sector, the Financial Services Index rose 4.82 points to 14,889.33, the Industrial Products and Services Index rose 0.07 points to 190.18 and the Plantation Index declined 4.81 points to 6,283.66.
