Wow! This Sector Is One Of The Largest Contributors To 2020 GDP

 The agri -commodity sector, including cocoa, is one of the main contributors to the country's export earnings and will be a pioneer in gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020.

Very little cocoa production has recorded an increase of more than 5.4% to contribute to the 2020 GDP of RM1.64 billion compared to RM1.56 billion last year.

According to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (KPPK), the cocoa sub -sector as a whole has contributed RM6.23 billion to the country's export earnings.

He added that the Malaysian Cocoa Board (LKM) is intensifying efforts and programs to produce high quality cocoa beans with superior flavor.

Cocoa beans are estimated to be able to be marketed at the highest price level which can reach up to RM15 per kilogram.

LKM also implements the Cocoa Cluster Chain Development Program as a catalyst for the sustainability of local cocoa production based on the concept of ‘Farm to Table’.

Meanwhile, the demand for premium cocoa beans by chocolate entrepreneurs is seen soaring and he is confident that the market and product demand can be further increased worldwide.

Apart from production and trade activities, smallholders are encouraged to try and venture into the field of agri -tourism.
