Wuhan, China will reportedly focus on the metaverse in an effort to redevelop their economies that have been hit hard by COVID-19.
It is understood the Wuhan government will integrate metaverse, blockchain, big data, cloud computing, geospatial information (geography and mapping), and quantum technology into the economy.
This plan has already been mentioned in the 2022 work plan.
According to the China Securities Journal, three other counties: Zhejiang, Hefei city (Anhui county), and Wuxi city (Jiangsu county) also presented similar ideas.
Previously, China was less in agreement with the metaverse, considering the technology as "licking the blood on the edge of a knife": a superficial act, and its development is not mature enough to be applied in all sectors.
It is reported that Baidu and NetEase are already panicking to join the metaverse space when realizing the future of this technology. To date, a total of 3,797 metaverse -related trademarks have been registered.
