"Evergrande, return our money!"
Worried about Evergrande's shortcomings, investors in the Chinese real estate giant seem to be impatient.
About 100 people believed to be investors in the company’s financial products staged a protest outside its Guangzhou office on Tuesday.
On Friday, Evergrande re-announced plans to repay its investors by saying each is expected to receive a principal payment of 8,000 yuan or $ 1,256 for three months starting January, regardless of when their investments mature.
Prior to that, Evergrande had agreed to a 10% refund at the end of the month when the product matured, without specifying the amount.
These changes indirectly reflect the difficulties the company faces in continuing to comply with the conditions as it is unable to raise sufficient money from its investment projects.
This in turn triggers investors' concerns that they will not get back the money they have invested.
