Health experts around the world are skeptical of reports of a possible mutation of Deltacron’s new Covid-19, a combination of Delta and Omicron, and say it may be the result of laboratory processing faults.

World Health Organization (WHO) Covid expert Dr Krutika Kuppalli via Twitter stated that there may have been laboratory contamination from Omicron fragments in Delta specimens.

Virologist from Imperial College London, Dr Tom Peacock and geneticist from the McGill University Montreal Health Center Research Institute, Fatima Tokhmafshan also stated that the Deltacron from Cyprus was clearly due to contamination in the laboratory.

In a separate piece of news, Pfizer chief executive Albert Bourla said the vaccine for the Omicron variant would be released in March this year.

He added that the vaccine also targets other Covid-19 variants and although it is still unclear whether the Omicron vaccine is needed or not or how it will be used, Pfizer will continue to provide some doses as some countries want it available as soon as possible.

In addition, Bourla also stated that Pfizer will continue to conduct studies to determine whether a 4th injection is necessary or not.

So far in Malaysia, the government is encouraging a 3rd injection (booster shot) to curb the spread of Covid-19 which has returned to peak.
