As the old people said, if you can't bring the old name, change the new name.

AirAsia Group Bhd has finalized the change of its company name to Capital A on 28 January 2022.

The name change by the airline occurred as it sought market recognition for its growing business portfolio beyond low -budget airlines.

In general, the aviation sector experienced a challenging time due to travel restrictions due to Covid-19 which led the Malaysian Stock Exchange to classify the company as a financially distressed company even though it had raised funds to strengthen its balance sheet.

Capital A has invested in the BigPay payments business which is the logistics arm of Teleport and its mobile app, Super App in securing other sources of revenue even though the company remained in a growth and loss phase in the quarter ended September 30, 2021.

Meanwhile, Capital A's chief executive officer, Tony Fernandes, said the AirAsia brand would be maintained as the AirAsia brand is a well -known brand in Asia.

The airline reports that it has filled 80% of the seats offered in the 4th quarter of 2021 and has the highest number of passengers since travel rules as a result of the Covid-19 being relaxed.
