UK Manufacturers Suffer Covid-19 Crime And Brexit

Pressures from the Covid-19 outbreak and Brexit have caused UK manufacturers to experience a decline in export demand.

This can be seen from new data showing that supply chain disruptions and labor shortages have stifled economic growth in December.

The latest picture from IHS Markit and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) showed growth in UK factory production stagnated last month due to coronavirus and Brexit sanctions that hurt orders and raised costs.

According to a survey of 650 manufacturers, made by the government and the Bank of England (BOE), new job inflows from abroad declined for the fourth consecutive month.

While firms reported continued growth at the end of last year and supply chain delays eased slightly, Brexit problems and the possibility of further pandemic sanctions at home and abroad had damaged export demand by the end of the year.

New trade restrictions since leaving the European Union (EU) and the effects of the pandemic have resulted in British exporters being among the slowest among major European economies to recover from Covid-19.
