Capital A, formerly AirAsia, will take back employees who had to be laid off in 2020 through its subsidiary, AirAsia Grocer.


AirAsia Grocer is an online retail shopping platform that matches local farmers and retailers with consumers.


AirAsia Grocer chief executive officer (CEO) Joanna Ibrahim, AirAsia Grocer is the grocery delivery arm of the AirAsia Super app, formerly AirAsia Farm.


For the record, AirAsia Farm was established during the Rehabilitation Movement Control Order (PKPP) in June 2020 supported by AirAsia Digital and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI).



It was set up to address the issue of fresh produce being wasted due to logistical disruptions.


According to Joanna, they will prioritize the re-employment of its former employees with 2-thirds of AirAsia Grocer employees to be recruited from the aviation sector and whichever previously held various positions related to aviation space.


He added that the company's revenue rose 18 times year-on-year (YOY) despite having difficulty gaining the trust of farmers and the business-to-business (B2B) segment grew in the next 6 months, further seeing the company gain momentum with the expansion of its operations. enter business-to-consumer (B2C) sales.


Among those re -employed were former pilot David John, former senior cabin crew member Hazree Zakaria and former senior flight operations engineer Trevor Wong who expressed their gratitude and eagerness to start work in a new field in AirAsia Grocer.


Meanwhile, at the group's corporate identity change ceremony on 28 January 2022, Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes expressed his views on applying blockchain technology in its AirAsia retail store operations.
