It's normal for companies to want to lose customers, but if they have cheated and bothered customers, it's better to be sued than fined.
South Korean antitrust regulators have imposed fines of 19.5 million Won or RM68,000 on Google, Netflix and 3 other video streaming services for conducting unfair business activities.
According to the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), 5 over-the-top (OTT) media service providers namely Google, Netflix, KT, LG Uplus and Content Wavve have barred customers from terminating their membership.
He added that the service providers had provided false information or did not allow customers to cancel their membership in an effort to make it difficult for customers to terminate their service usage contracts.
In addition to fines, the FTC also instructed them to correct their business practices.
OTT services in South Korea accounted for 34% of paid users last year with Google-owned YouTube being the most popular OTT in the K-Pop country, accounting for 65.5% of total users and followed by Netflix at 24%.
