‘The other day KKM and Pharmaniaga had a tongue -in -cheek fight, maybe this is an opportunity for Moderna to get online.’

Moderna Inc, the United States (US) Covid-19 vaccine manufacturer, has expressed its intention to expand its network to the Asian region by adding 4 more new subsidiaries in Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

A statement issued by the company stated that it is planning to expand the production and distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine as well as its artificial mRNA vaccine.

The selection of the Asia-Pacific region is seen to play an important role to Moderna's business which now has subsidiaries in the eastern region, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

This is because, the Asian region, which has a high population, will be affected by the increasing rate of communicable and non -communicable diseases.

Moderna Chief Executive Officer, Stephane Bancel, said 2021 is a progressive year for his company and the addition of 4 more subsidiaries in Asia-Pacific will open up more opportunities to leverage its mRNA platform as well as health products.

According to Bancel, so far the Moderna vaccine has been marketed in more than 70 countries including Canada, Japan, the European Union and the United Kingdom (UK).

Company report data shows as many as 807 million doses of Moderna have been marketed worldwide, with 25% of those shipped to low- and middle -income markets over 2021.
