E-commerce company, Rakuten Group Inc launched a non-fungible token (NFT) platform known as Rakuten NFT.

It is understood that plans to set up the NFT platform have been announced since September 2021 following the tremendous growth of interest in this space.

On this platform, users are free to make NFT purchases, including performing NFT peer-to-peer (P2P) trading activities that cover various categories: sports, entertainment, music and anime.

More interestingly, Rakuten NFT offers a one-stop platform to IP owners for the establishment of their own website for the publication and sale of NFT.

NFT collectors interested in getting NFT on the platform can use a Rakuten ID. They also have the opportunity to grab and spend Rakuten Points using their IDs.

Some of the NFTs that were launched and gained attention include: the Japanese animated series, Ultraman; Kurogane Hiroshi G1 Gekitoshi comics (2010 series) themed horse racing; rare and famous footage from the Asahi Corporation TV show; a collection of art paintings from the Art Powers Japan Association; anime characters from the Tiger & Bunny 2 series published by Bandai Namco Pictures Inc .; clothing brand Beams Co., Ltd .; music from Up-Front Group Co., Ltd .; and an anime project from Goro Taniguchi, Estab Life.

As for sports -related NFT, Rakuten NF intends to launch the sale of the J.League NFT Collection Players Anthem football collection and develop the Rakuten NFT Art Gallery as a space for NFT artwork that is Rakuten NFT's choice.

However, Rakuten NFT is only available for the Japanese market.

For the record, Rakuten was the earliest company to apply Bitcoin payments in 2015 when it integrated with the Bitnet platform. In 2019, the company launched a cryptocurrency exchange platform under Rakuten Wallet Inc.
