‘Hopefully this can resolve the supply issue should it.’

The dire situation of Covid-19 in Shanghai has resulted in the Chinese government implementing the largest lockdown order for almost 3 consecutive weeks, affecting the production sector.

All of the world's production plants based in the city have been ordered to close and suspend operations, but the situation is likely to change soon after the Chinese government is now in the process of speeding up the termination of the Covid-19 lockdown.

According to sources, large factories including Tesla in Shanghai will resume operations by Tuesday as it faces logistical problems that need to be resolved.

In addition, SAIC Motor, which is a partner of Volkswagen from China and General Motors, is said to be resuming plant operations on Monday.

So far, Chinese industry regulators have published a ‘whitelist’ of 666 firms in Shanghai’s semiconductor, auto and medical supplies sectors on Friday to be given priority to start operations.

According to guidelines issued by the Chinese government, companies applying for work resumption must keep medical supplies, in addition to creating schedules for employees who must stay at work or be limited to travel between work and home.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government is seen to be redoubled efforts in realizing the goal of zero Covid (zero-COVID) in their communities as soon as possible.

According to an official from the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, Wu Qianyu, the city will begin a round of PCR testing and antigen kits for Shanghai residents to ‘lock in’ and ‘control’ the spread from Monday to Thursday.

It is understood that Shanghai is targeting to stop the deployment of Covid-19 outside the quarantined areas on Wednesday, to allow more easing to be implemented.

The city has also increased testing and transfer of positive cases as well as close contacts to isolation centers in meeting that goal.
