Who would have thought that the Instagram account belonging to the world famous NFT collection, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) was hacked and resulted in the loss of 54 apes worth over $ 10 million!

What happen?

On Monday, Instagram and BAYC's official Discord column suddenly sent a mint link to its followers.

The link is said to be an opportunity for users to mint ‘sites’ in the Otherside metaverse which is scheduled to launch this week.

However, the wallets of all users who were tricked by the link fell victim to hackers, witnessing the loss of 24 NFT BAYCs and 30 NFT Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC).

The NFT collection was apparently unknowingly transferred to the wallet

It is understood that the 54 NFTs amount to $ 13.7 million (RM59.63 million).

Following the incident, BAYC finally posted a warning via an official tweet on Twitter: “No mint happened today. BAYC’s Instagram account appears to have been hacked. Don't mint anything, click links, or connect your wallet to any apps and devices. ”

Etherscan also took the initiative by labeling the hacker's wallet address with the sign 'phish/hack'.

A Yuga Labs spokesperson explained: “The hacker had uploaded a fake link that led users to a fake BAYC website. Starting with the website, users are asked to link their MetaMask account with a hacker wallet to join the fake airdrop. ”

All links shared on Instagram and Discord have been deleted and Yuga Labs is doing its best to try to recover the hacked account.

Yuga Labs is also trying to connect with hacking victims to restore tension.
