Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that NATO’s growing involvement in its conflict with Ukraine brought the situation closer to a third world war.
Speaking to Russian news agencies on Monday, Lavrov claimed that arms aid by Western countries to Ukraine meant the NATO alliance was essentially engaged in war with Russia.
As such, Moscow sees such weapons as legitimate targets for Russian troops to act in the context of special operations.
Even so, the head of Russian diplomacy later reduced the likelihood that a third world war would ensue because Western countries would not allow the deployment of their troops in Ukraine.
This will indirectly prevent any increase in tensions up to the extent of the use of nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, when talking about Russia's peace talks with Ukraine, Lavrov criticized Kiev's approach in the talks which was seen as not helping the negotiation process.
However, he said that his party would continue to engage in negotiations with the team represented by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
