The price of the iPhone must go up this time because of less production. '

Chinese technology firm Pegatron, which is a supplier of spare parts for Apple's iPhone smart devices, had to stop operating its two factories following a curfew in Shanghai in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The announcement came shortly after Shanghai authorities enforced a lockdown order on the city with a population density of 25 million.

According to Pegatron’s filing, the 2 operating plants are located in Shanghai and Kunshan in response to ‘Covid-19 prevention requirements from local governments’ and are expected to resume operations as soon as possible upon obtaining permission.

In addition, MacBook maker Apple, Quanta and iPad maker, Compal Electronics also reportedly stopped operations temporarily in China.

Meanwhile, Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives said the lockdown will definitely affect Apple's production around the world.

Clearly, they expect production of 3 million iPhones, 2 million iPads and 1 million Macbooks to be affected so far this month and ‘with more to come’ if the situation continues.

In addition, Taiwanese company Foxconn, which owns an iPhone assembly plant in Shenzhen, was also forced to cease operations.

In general, since the pandemic began in 2019, China has implemented lockdowns that have affected major cities including Xi’an and Wuhan, as well as causing its biggest lockdown in Shanghai to cripple some of the country’s important financial centers.
