At 9am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 0.02 points at 1,597.29 from Thursday's close of 1,597.31.
The index opened 4.71 points strong at 1,602.02.
It opened higher yields before it retreated slightly when a decline in investor confidence in the absence of new market catalysts.
On the broader market, investors saw gainers at 219 outpacing losers at 130, while 266 counters were unchanged, 1,673 untraded and 67 suspended.
Total turnover at 185.11 million units worth RM95.65 million.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd notes that strong corporate reports helped a strong bounce on Wall Street yesterday.
In addition, they expect some selling activity to emerge on the local bourse ahead of the 3-day close in conjunction with Hari Raya, so the index may be at 1,590-1,600 today.
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) fall 1 sen at RM9.03, IHH Healthcare Bhd lost 5 sen at RM6.60, Public Bank Bhd added 1 sen at RM4.72 and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd gained 12 sen at RM10. 22 while CIMB Group Holdings Bhd remained at RM5.19.
Active stocks saw Euro Holdings Bhd rise 5.5 sen at 23 sen, Vortex Consolidated Bhd added 1 sen at 19 sen, PUC Bhd collected 1.5 sen at 12.5 sen and YTL Corp Bhd jumped 2.5 sen at 62 sen while Anzo Holdings Bhd lost 0.5 sen at 1 sen. sen.
On the index board, FBM ACE rose 30.57 points at 5,616.34, FBM 70 drove 37.52 points at 13,748.79, FBM Emas index expanded 7.72 points at 11,443.21, FBMT 100 Index strengthened 6.97 points at 11,099.35 and FBM Emas Shariah index reached 2.73 points at 11,993.27.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index expanded 11.89 points at 16,923.36 and the Products and Services Industry index gained 0.71 points at 210.13 while the Plantation index declined 16.29 points at 8,768.62.
