Last week, the European Union (EU) was determined to work on a new package of sanctions against Russia that is likely to see more bans imposed following its latest action in northern Ukraine.

Initially the new restrictions only focused on aircraft taxes and import -export goods such as jet fuel, steel products and luxury goods. However, the EU did not stop there, the EU authorities began targeting the crypto market as a measure of sanctions. In a new level of sanctions, the EU has stated that they will target deposits made to individual cryptocurrencies.

Opening this week, the EU once again slammed Russia’s actions by adding further pressure on Russia’s latest actions. The European Commission has added 21 Russian airlines to its list of airlines banned from operating in 27 European countries because they do not meet international safety standards, the EU executive branch said on the day.

According to Transport Commissioner Adina Valean, "The Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation has previously allowed Russian airlines to operate hundreds of foreign aircraft without a valid air qualification certificate,"

He further said that this matter has violated international security standards and could pose a security threat.

Yet Valean explained that the decision to ban Russian -certified airlines, including Aeroflot, was not another sanctions against Russia because of its aggression on Ukraine, but a step taken solely on technical and security reasons.
