At 9am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 2.45 points at 1,557.03 from Tuesday's close of 1,554.58.
The index opened 0.90 points strong at 1,555.48.
The bourse was seen starting the morning session slightly mixed as a result of new buying interest boost amid cautious sentiment based on Wall Street performance.
On the broader market, investors saw losers at 210 outpacing gainers at 152, while 250 counters were unchanged, 1,631 untraded and 14 suspended.
Total turnover at 310.77 million units worth RM111.02 million.
A note from Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd stated that investors expect continued buying activity ahead of the earnings season despite the uncertainty over the overnight performance on Wall Street.
He added that overall market sentiment may be tested by concerns over the impact of the Prosperous Tax on corporate decisions and ahead of Bank Negara Malaysia's rate hike today (Wednesday).
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) add 4 sen at RM9.40, Public Bank Bhd rose 1 sen at RM4.65 and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd gained 2 sen at RM9.91 while IHH Healthcare Bhd lost 2 sen at RM6. 41.
Active stocks saw CSH Alliance Bhd jump 1 sen to 12.5 sen while Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd fell 1.5 sen to 6 sen, Techna-X Bhd declined 0.5 sen to 11 sen and Bumi Armada Bhd lost 1 sen to 41 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas index rose 5.37 points at 11,115.83, the FBMT 100 index reached 6.79 points at 10,794.28 and the FBM Emas Shariah index recovered 0.19 points at 11,548.73 while the FBM ACE declined 23.51 points at 5,349.57 and the FBM 70 declined 33.40 points at 13,267.57.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index increased 27.87 points at 16,688.31, the Products and Services Industry index decreased 0.03 points at 197.13 and the Plantation index added 34.15 points at 8,180.25.
