U.S. President Joe Biden is likely to lower some tariffs imposed on Chinese imports to help control rising consumer prices in the country.

Speaking to the nation on Tuesday, Biden said the White House is reviewing the penalties imposed during former President Donald Trump’s previous administration.

He also said they were considering what would have a more positive impact, adding that the abolition of the tariff was currently under discussion.

The imposition of tariffs on Chinese imported goods during the trade war by Trump has led to price hikes from diapers to clothing and furniture.

The extent to which these cuts will ease inflation is a matter of debate among analysts, but many say the move is among several options available for the White House to curb price increases.

Biden went on to reiterate his earlier statements blaming Covid-19 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had caused U.S. inflation to soar to a 40-year high.
