Strong rumors say that Facebook's main competitor belonging to Meta Platfrom Inc, TikTok is testing gaming functionality into its app.

According to sources, the Vietnamese market is being targeted for testing the gaming functionality in the company’s efforts to penetrate the gaming business.

It is also said that TikTok owned by ByteDance China plans to launch their gaming functions widely in the Southeast Asian market as early as the 3rd quarter.

However, the legitimacy of the launch is still uncertain.

A TikTok representative only stated the company is testing HTML5 games, a form of mini-games, through collaborations with 3rd-party game developers and studios like Zynga Inc.

However, there are subers who say TikTok plans to use the ByteDance game network as its core.

It is also understood that the Vietnamese market was chosen because 70% of its citizens under the age of 35 are technologically literate and are an active market in users of social media applications including YouTube and Google.

As a matter of knowledge, gaming functionality has long been introduced by ByteDance into the Douyin app, the Chinese version of TikTok, in 2019 ago.

Apart from that, this TikTok show is not something new because Facebook once launched the ‘Instant Games’ function in 2016 and Netflix also did the same recently.

Even so, the plan to include the game into TikTok will definitely increase advertising revenue as well as the amount of time generated by users, who now have over 1 billion monthly active users.

Even without gaming functionality, TikTok’s advertising revenue alone has tripled this year to US $ 11 billion, surpassing the combined sales of Twitter Inc and Snap Inc.
