Last week, US fast food chain McDonald’s officially left the Russian market after 3 decades of operation.
Now, more than 800 derelict stores have been bought by a Russian businessman, Alexander Govor under the new brand.
It is said that Govor had previously operated 25 McDonald’s restaurants through his firm, GiD LCC.
Below is a brief summary of Govor.
Born in Novokuznetsk, Siberia and co -founder of coal mining company, Yuzhkuzbassugol.
Together with Evraz, a multinational manufacturing and mining company, bought a mine in Yuzhkuzbassugol in 1990.
In 2007 his company closed after an explosion and he switched to the crude oil business.
Sold its mining assets to open the Yaisky Oil Refinery in 2013.
Through GiD LLC, Govor has been McDonlads’s Russia operator since 2015.
Meanwhile, Govor's action is seen in line with the plans of McDonald's Russia Director General Oleg Paroev, who had previously called on all franchisees to join the new commercial branding system introduced.
According to Paroev, the new branding is open to all franchisees under the new commercial system which will see them no longer work under McDonald’s.
While not disclosing what would have happened if other franchisees had not joined, another major McDonald’s franchisee in Russia, Rosinter Restaurants, may have to rename the restaurant, shut down operations or make alternative plans.
