At 9am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 5.18 points at 1,553.78 from Tuesday's close of 1,548.6.
The index opened strong 5.55 points at 1,554.15.
The bourse extended yesterday's gains in the morning session on the back of buying interest in selected commodities as well as oil and gas -related heavyweights.
On the broader market, investors saw gainers at 213 outnumbering losers at 109, while 231 counters were unchanged, 1,702 untraded and 11 suspended.
Total turnover at 344.01 million units worth RM95.18 million.
Note Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd expects the recovery on the local bourse to continue as the rebound on Wall Street overnight on strong retail sales data as well as confidence in the easing of sanctions in China.
Moreover, they expect buying interest to emerge in the technology sector based on a strong rally on the Nasdaq.
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Public Bank Bhd add 1 sen at RM8.96 and RM4.54, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd advanced 10 sen at RM10.12, IHH Healthcare Bhd rose 7 sen at RM6.50 and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd reached 2 sen at RM5.08.
Active stocks saw Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd advance 46 sen at RM32.16 and RM27.16, Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd gained 23 sen at RM6.94, Batu Kawan Bhd collected 18 sen at RM27.50 and Gas Malaysia Bhd jumped 15 sen to RM3.14.
On the index board, FBM ACE rose 12.91 points at 5,376.15, FBM Emas index drove 40.73 points at 11,101.14, FBMT 100 index strengthened 39.31 points at 10,764.39, FBM Emas Shariah index expanded 49.75 points at 11,599.02 and FBM 70 added 62.06 points at 13,200.91.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index rose 39.55 points at 16,574.04, the Products and Services Industry index added 0.56 points at 200.98 and the Plantation index reached 34.62 points at 8,294.81.
