At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 3.45 points at 1,434.50 from Thursday's close of 1,431.05.
The index opened 0.25 points strong at 1,431.30.
The bourse continued its excellence to open green over the weekend after tracking Wall Street’s overnight performance including its regional markets.
On the broader market, investors saw gainers at 131 outpacing losers at 95, while 167 counters were unchanged, 1,896 untraded and 10 suspended.
Total turnover at 77.59 million units worth RM33.11 million.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd's vice president of equity research, Thong Pak Leng, said the KLCI was expected to hover in the 1,430-1,445 range today as investor sentiment remained cautious reflecting the situation on Wall Street.
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Public Bank Bhd gain 3 sen at RM8.59 and RM4.43, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd added 1 sen at RM4.91 while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd lost 4 sen at RM9.11 and IHH Healthcare Bhd remained at RM6.36.
Active stocks saw Xidelang Holdings Ltd remain at 2 sen, Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) rose 0.5 sen at 75.5 sen and TAFI Industries Bhd bloomed 2 sen at 49 sen while Straits Energy Resources Bhd and Malaysian Genomics Resource Center Bhd gained 1.5 sen at 12 sen and 77.5 cents.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Shariah index strengthened 25.43 points at 10,378.41, FBM 70 rose 48.08 points at 12,391.96, the FBM Emas index collected 26.94 points at 10,234.18 and the FBMT 100 index jumped 27.49 points at 9,976.59 while the FBM ACE weakened 3.86 points at 4,742.75.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index increased 46.94 points at 15,967.53 while the Plantation index decreased 15.74 points at 6,938.54 and the Products and Services Industry index decreased 0.18 points at 181.10.
