AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd's special unit, Advanced Air Mobility AirAsia signed a letter of intent (LOI) with air mobility infrastructure developer (AAM), Skyports Infrastructure to explore the development of air taxis in Malaysia.
Through a statement issued by AirAsia Aviation, the partnership will combine the group's expertise and experience with market knowledge and the Skyports network in building the necessary infrastructure.
In general, Skyports has an extensive global portfolio in designing and building take-off and landing facilities for eVTOL passenger aircraft.
Among the AAM projects that Skyports has developed are in Paris, London, Los Angeles.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Skyports has developed AAMs in Singapore and Japan.
Commented Captain Ling Liong Tien, AirAsia Aviation's Chief Security Officer and head of Advanced Air Mobility, it is a big step for the company in realizing the desire of air taxi services to exist in Malaysia.
He added that the partnership is expected to further accelerate the exploration of air taxi infrastructure in Malaysia and become the first in the Southeast Asian region.
Meanwhile, Yun Yuan Tay who is the head of Skyports expressed his excitement to collaborate with AirAsia Aviation in developing AAM in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region in the future.
