Bursa Malaysia's trading session started positively after tracking the strong performance of the Wall Street market closing, an early reaction ahead of the release of the company's profit report in the United States (US).
At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 1.48 points at 1,419.92 from Friday's close of 1,418.44.
The index opened strong 2.45 points at 1,420.89.
On the broader market, gainers at 190 outpaced losers at 116, while 199 counters were unchanged, 1,782 untraded and 20 suspended.
Total turnover at 122.71 million units worth RM50.55 million.
Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd's note said the main highlight was concerns that the ongoing recession was affecting investor sentiment ahead of the release of the company's profit report in the US.
Apart from that, the focus is also on the European Central Bank (ECB) meeting and Malaysia's inflation data this week.
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and IHH Healthcare Bhd remain at RM8.59 and RM6.43, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd added 1 sen at RM8.12, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd gained 5 sen at RM5.10 and Public Bank Bhd declined 2 sen to RM4.38.
Active stocks saw Ecoscience International Bhd lose 3 sen at 27 sen, BSL Corporation Bhd rose 1 sen at 11 sen, Top Glove Corporation Bhd added 1.5 sen at RM1.01, Malaysian Genomics Resource Center Bhd jumped 2 sen at RM1.09 and MQ Technology Bhd. Remained at 3.5 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas index rose 19.26 points at 10,067.15, the FBM Emas Shariah index added 28.65 points at 10,111.00, FBM 70 jumped 55.68 points at 12,050.69, the FBMT 100 index advanced 18.44 points at 9,834.19 and FBM ACE climbed 11.61 points at 4,571.44.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index reached 11.85 points at 16,091.54, the Products and Services Industry index weakened 0.14 points at 166.87, the Energy index added 1.79 points at 606.43 and the Plantation index rose 17.89 points at 6,673.62.
