Russia has denied accusations of its involvement in the attack on the Nord Stream gas pipeline, saying the United States has made huge profits in supplying gas to Europe.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a daily press conference that the incident should be investigated and that it would take time to repair the damage to the pipeline.
When asked about allegations that Russia may have masterminded the leak, Peskov rebuffed the accusations as 'stupid'.
He said the damage was a big problem for Moscow because both Nord Stream 2 channels were filled with gas, and the leak caused them to bear losses.
However, Russia is seeing huge gains from US liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers who are doubling their supplies to the European continent, he added.
Citing a Reuters report, America has planned to supply at least 15 billion cubic meters of LNG to the European Union (EU) market this year as the bloc seeks to cut off Russian gas supplies.
Following that, Peskov stressed that they have to wait for the investigation on this damage whether it was caused by an explosion or not.
