Based on the excellent performance of Wall Street, the local market started 'good' behind the news of uncertainty about the general election.
At the opening, the FBM KLCI index started 6.65 points at 1,392.92 before rising 9.30 points at 1,395.57 compared to Monday's close of 1,386.92.
In the broader market, gains at 219 offset losses at 61, while 178 counters were unchanged, 1,892 untraded and 7 suspended.
Total revenue at 107.87 million units worth RM47.63 million.
According to Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd, the local exchange reflected the positive trend of Wall Street when the banking sector reported excellent earnings in the United States (US).
That streak, the KLCI is expected to hover in the 1,380-1,400 range with buying activity likely to appear in banking and technology stocks including construction ahead of the general election.
Heavyweight stocks saw Public Bank Bhd add 3 sen to RM4.23, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd gained 5 sen to RM5.35, IHH Healthcare Bhd jumped 12 sen to RM5.98, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) remained unchanged at RM8.50 and RM8.19 while Maybank and Hong Leong Bank Bhd lost 2 sen at RM8.50 and RM20.58.
Active stocks saw Jade Marvel Group Bhd up 1 sen at 26 sen, HLT Global Bhd up 0.5 sen at 27 sen, Hiap Huat Holdings Bhd remained at 16 sen, Careplus Group Bhd and Top Glove Corp down 0.5 sen at 41 sen and 73.5 sen while Supermax Corp Bhd fell 2 sen to 88.5 sen.
On the index board, FBM Emas rose 61.52 points at 9,925.58, FBM 70 added 67.97 points at 11,900.51, FBMT 100 canak 62.32 points at 9,676.15, FBM Emas Shariah gained 73.94 points at 9,927.08 and FBM ACE collected 29.22 points at 4,710.99.
In terms of sectors, the Financial Services index rose 55.94 points at 15,971.84, the Products and Services index added 0.37 points at 169.92, the Plantation index jumped 45.65 points at 6,451.11 and the Energy index reached 3.60 points at 668.64.
Meanwhile, the ringgit bounced back from 7 consecutive sessions of decline due to renewed buying interest.
At the opening, the local currency traded up 4.7135/7180 against the greenback from yesterday's close of 4.7150/7185.
