Is the Real Situation of Covid in China Getting Worse?

Since the Covid-19 restrictions in China were eased, the number of cases of infection due to the epidemic continued to increase until it filled all hospital rooms in the country, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Executive Director of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme, Mike Ryan, said intensive care units (ICUs) were busy even though officials said the numbers were relatively low.

Not only that, but there is doubt in the actual number affected by the epidemic in China.

The number of cases has jumped sharply since the government ended most containment measures in the country two weeks ago.

This in turn raises concerns about the high death rate among the elderly who are very vulnerable to the epidemic infection.

Despite this, official figures released by the government show that only five people died on Tuesday and two on Monday.

In the meantime, the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhabom Ghebreyesus expressed his concern about the situation in China.

He also called for specific data on disease severity, hospitalization and intensive care needs.
