The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google on Tuesday.

This is the second such claim by the department since 2020, in which Google was accused of abusing its dominance in digital advertising.

The initial lawsuit filed in 2020 under the Donald Trump administration accused the company of using its monopoly power to dominate the search engine market.

The Alphabet-owned company has generated most of its revenue from Search ads, YouTube, the Google Network and other advertising.

In addition, eight US states also joined the DOJ in the lawsuit.

Those states include Connecticut, California, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Virginia.

In their lawsuit, the DOJ and the following states argued that Google sought to control all parts of the market with advertising.

Google has repeatedly denied it dominates the online advertising market, instead pointing the finger at other competitors including Meta (Facebook).

It's the latest pressure on the company after it announced it would lay off 12,000 jobs, joining other tech giants amid growing fears of a recession.
