PM Anwar Freezes Cabinet Leave, Calls for Help for Flood Victims

All Cabinet leave has been frozen following the flood disaster that is currently hitting the country.


Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when announcing the matter, said that all ministers and deputy ministers have also been instructed to go to the disaster areas.


He added that all ministers are asked to continue their current duties, which is to go to the field to help flood victims and cancel all leave applications.


He said this when asked whether the leave of Cabinet members would be frozen while the flood disaster is currently hitting the country.


Continuous rain has caused the number of flood victims in several states to increase sharply with Kelantan recording the highest number, with 59,232 victims being moved to 221 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) compared to 50,947 people in 207 PPS on Thursday night.


In Terengganu, a total of 20,911 victims from 5,916 families have taken shelter in 232 PPS as of 8 am this morning compared to 17,762 people yesterday.


Other states also affected by the floods are Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.


The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning for eight states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Johor.
